Hole 8 / Bridge over River Kwai

Located at Kanchanaburi, Thailand

Built at Sept. 1942

Latitude 14°01’N

Longitude 99°31’E

One of most famous memorials of World War II is the construction of the 415 Km railway between Kanchanaburi, Thailand and Burma. Asian laborers, Commonwealth, Dutch and American prisoners of war were forced to build this railway including the BRIGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI. During its construction from 1942-1943, approximately 13’000 POW and an estimated 100,000 civilians died and were buried along the railway.

This sacrificing project however, was not a success, the bridge was only used once before it was bombed in February 1945.
